I think this set of shows are some of the best that Ryan Adams has done, he was not playing guitar due to a wrist injury and his full attention is on his vocals… and these are the first shows he performed after he stopped drinking. The stage was kept very dark, cast in a blue light, you could hardly see the band, but it wasn’t about sight, it was about sound. I was at the June 20th Gem Theater performance, the only one where he played Strawberry Wine, a favorite song of mine. There are some great recordings of these shows, I continually return to the Gem performance for another listen.

These unique acoustic performances from small intimate theaters can be listened to at the links below:

listen: June 18th show …………………………………. listen: June 19th show

listen: June 20th show …………………………………. listen: June 22nd show

Ryan returned to playing the guitar and the band went electric at the June 28th Philadelphia show and that format continued for the remaining 65 dates of the tour… it was very cool to witness the unique vocal/acoustic performance early in the tour… I was also at the September 22nd Ann Arbor show, so I got the electric Ryan too!
